IOWA CITY, Iowa – The nationally ranked University of Iowa women’s rowing team reached new heights the 2023 Championship season totaling 17 outright victories.
- The Hawkeyes finished 20th in the CRCA Pocock Final Poll for the first time since 2019.
- Iowa spent four weeks in the top-20 which was also the best since 2021.
- Collected a season-high six wins at the Big Ten/Big 12 Invite over Kansas, Minnesota, and Oklahoma.
- Following six victories, Iowa’s Varsity Eight boat won Big Ten boat of the week (4/18) for the 17th time in program history and for the first time since May 3, 2022.
- Big Ten Boat of the Week Participants: Cara Burns (coxswain), Emma Dabinett, Kassandra McWhorter, Lisa Murphy, Abbey Klostermann, Taryn Lindaman, Molly Shannon, Hailey Mercuri, and Orla Cuffe.
- Won five races at the Big Ten Invitational, including upsets over No. 18 Tennessee and No. 19 Alabama.
- At the Lake Wheeler Invite, the Hawkeyes picked up four wins. Iowa led the field in top 2 finishes with eight which was good for fourth overall against a field with three Top-15 opponents.
- Iowa’s Varsity Four earned its best win of the season over No. 12 SMU at the Big 10/Pac-12 Invitational.
- Placed fifth at the Big Ten Championships for the second consecutive season earning 90 points, 15 more points from the previous year.
- Had three All-Big Ten selections: Dabinett (First Team), McWhorter (Second Team), and Sydney Brands (Sportsmanship).
- Klostermann was named to the 2023 All-District Women’s At-Large Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, which recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
- The rowing program had a 3.36 Spring GPA with nine student-athletes registering a perfect 4.0 GPA.
- Also had 32 student-athletes on the Dean’s List.
