No. 7 Iowa Wins Ranked Showdown With No. 19 UAlbany

ALBANY, New York – Freshman Dionne van Aalsum‘s fourth multi-goal game of the season led the seventh-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over No. 19 UAlbany on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Turf.

“Great team win against a very talented Albany team,” said head coach Lisa Cellucci. “When we stuck to the game plan we were clinical. Lots of growth this weekend. We are excited to get back home and play in front of the home crowd on Grant Field next weekend.”

Van Aalsum gave the Hawkeyes the early lead 1:58 into the game scoring off an assist from freshman Miranda Jackson. She recorded her second goal less than two minutes later off a penalty corner assisted by junior Annika Herbine.

Junior Hillary Cox added an exclamation point to the game with a goal in the 58th minute off a penalty stroke for the first goal of her collegiate career.

OF NOTE…
– Van Aalsum has recorded a multi-goal game in every game of her collegiate career, tallying eight goals in four games.
– Iowa recorded its third shutout in four games.
– Redshirt Sophomore Mia Magnotta tallied three saves, bringing her season total to 10 this season.
– Magnotta has allowed only two goals in four games.
– Cox recorded her first goal of the season and her career.
