IOWA CITY, Iowa – The top-ranked University of Iowa Field hockey team fell to No. 11 Ohio State, 2-1, in its first loss on Friday afternoon at Grant Field.
The loss drops the Hawkeyes’ record to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play.
The Buckeyes struck first in the 15th minute, scoring on a penalty corner with a goal from Makenna Webster off assists from Anne Marie Krebs and Sarah Richards.
Freshman Dionne van Aalsum tied the game scoring in the 37th minute off an assist from junior Lieve Schalk.
Ohio State took the lead with 4:18 remaining in the third quarter off an unassisted goal from Brenna Bough.
OF NOTE…
• The Hawkeyes have only allowed five goals in ten games this season
• Four out of five goals surrendered have come against ranked opponents.
• Van Aalsum has scored in nine out of ten games this season.
• Sophomore Mia Magnotta recorded three saves in today’s game, tallying 21 on the season.
