No. 5 Hawkeyes Fall to No. 9 Maryland

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The fifth-ranked University of Iowa Field hockey team fell to No. 9 Maryland, 4-1, in its third loss of the season on Friday afternoon at Maryland’s Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

Maryland’s Sammy Popper scored first in the 2nd minute of the game assisted by Josie Hollamon. The Terrapins doubled their lead in the 10th minute with a goal from Hannah Boss and Nathalie Fiechter scored the Terrapins third goal of the game in the last minute of the first half.

Junior Annika Herbine scored off a penalty corner in the 46th minute assisted by freshman Dionne van Aalsum to cut the lead to two.

Maryland finished the game with a goal by Hannah Boss in the 47th minute.

OF NOTE…
• Iowa moves to 12-3 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
• Sophomore Mia Magnotta recorded five saves in today’s game bringing her total to 49 on the season.
• Annika Herbine recorded her third goal of the season.
• 11 out of the 12 goals Iowa has surrendered have come against ranked opponents.
