STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania – The fifth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team fell to No. 16 Penn State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.
Iowa falls to 12-4 on the season and 3-4 in Big Ten play. Sophomore Mia Magnotta recorded eight saves to Penn State’s 11.
The Hawkeyes started off the scoring as senior Alex Wesneski found the back of the goal in the 14th minute assisted by freshman Miranda Jackson.
Penn State tied the game as Sophia Gladieux scored on a penalty corner in the 28th minute assisted by Madison Tambroni and Ella Jennes.
The Nittany Lions took the lead five minutes into the second half with a goal by Carly Gannon assisted by Gladieux
OF NOTE…
– The Hawkeyes recorded back-to-back losses for the first time this season.
– 13 out of the 14 goals Iowa has surrendered have come against ranked opponents.
– Wesneski recorded her fifth goal this season.
