MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Iowa junior Tereza Dejnozkova finished third in singles at the ITA Central Regionals, which wrapped up Monday at the Leftwich Tennis Center. It is the highest finish all-time by a Hawkeye at the event.
The South Alabama transfer posted a straight set victory over Oklahoma’s Alina Shcherbinina, 6-2, 7-5.
“One hundred and 50 players started Regionals this week and Tess finished third,” said Iowa head coach Sasha Boros-Schmid. “She had an outstanding tournament and posted big wins all week.
“She finished one spot out of qualifying for NCAAs, but she has earned a spot in sectionals in three weeks with another chance to qualify.”
The Hawkeyes will return to action on Nov. 1-3 with players heading to the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, and Michigan State Invitational in East Lansing, Michigan.
