Valarezo Falls in Semifinals at Ball State Invitational

MUNCIE, IN – Iowa freshman Walter Valarezo was defeated in the semifinals of the B Flight main singles draw Sunday morning at the Ball State Invitational. Tournament play was later cancelled due to rain.

Valarezo lost to Illinois State’s Ben Pettinar in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Valarezo finisheD the tournament with a team-best singles record of 3-1. The D Flight main draw doubles championship between senior Matis Jasicek and freshman Alexis Lebron and Western Michigan’s Justin Kates and Erik Lindroos was not played. The C Flight consolation doubles title between freshman Scott Elwell and sophomore Aaron Schaechterle and Illinois State’s Chris Cozad and Guillermo Gomez was also cancelled due to rain.

The Hawkeyes will have a week off before traveling to Madison, WI, to compete at the Wisconsin Invitational. Tournament play will be held October 10-12 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
