MADISON, WI – The Iowa men’s tennis team completed day two of mock-dual competition Saturday afternoon at the Wisconsin Invitational held at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Hawkeyes claimed a singles victory over Marquette (4-2) and lost to Northern Illinois (5-2). Iowa also lost a 2-1 doubles contest to Nebraska.
Sophomores Parker Ross and Aaron Schachterle and freshman Ryan Reid each claimed their second singles victories of the tournament to even their weekend records to 2-2. Ross was a winner over Marquette’s Eigis Vedrickas in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). Schaechterle defeated Marquette’s Tomek Czernuszewicz without losing a game (6-0, 6-0). Reid was a winner over Marquette’s Ricky Servoss (6-2, 6-4). Freshmen Sebastian Delgado, Jonny Hoak, Walter Valarezo and Alexis Lebron each claimed their first match of the tournament. Delgado defeated Northern Illinois’ Aaron Forsberg (6-4, 7-5). Hoak won his first collegiate match with a victory over the Huskies’ Ryan Schnack (6-3, 6-1). Valarezo downed Ian Kawas of Marquette (6-3, 6-2). Lebron won his match with Wisconsin’s Mike Goodman by default.
In doubles competition, sophomore Chaitu Malempati won his second doubles match of the tournament teaming up with Hoak to defeat Nebraska’s Joel Reckewey and Jeff Nabity (8-3).
Tournament play will conclude tomorrow afternoon.
