MADISON, WI – The Iowa men’s tennis team concluded competition at the Wisconsin Invitational Sunday afternoon with a 3-3 singles split with Nebraska and a 3-0 mock-dual victory over Marquette.
Sophomore Parker Ross recorded his third singles victory of the tournament after winning his match with Joreg Barthel of Nebraska by default. Sophomore Aaron Schaechterle also collected his third victory of the tournament with a thrilling 7-6 (17-15) first-set tiebreak victory and a 6-3 win in the second set over Nebraska’s Tanner Gates. Sophomore Chaitu Malempati was victorious with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nebraska’s Jeff Nabity.
In doubles competition, Malempati and Ross downed Marquette’s Creighton Macy and Hugo Leenders (9-7). Schaechterle and freshman Walter Valarezo posted an 8-4 victory over Marquette’s Ricky Servoss and Eigis Vendrikas. Freshmen Jonny Hoak and Ryan Reid recorded a 9-7 victory over Marquette’s Ian Kawas and Tomeck Czernuszewicz (9-7).
The Hawkeyes will have a week off before traveling to East Lansing, MI, October 23-28 to compete at the ITA Regionals.
