Hawkeyes Eliminated From ITA Regionals

EAST LANSING, MI – The Iowa men’s tennis team was eliminated from main draw singles and doubles competition Saturday afternoon at the ITA Omni Orrington Regionals at the MSU Tennis Facility.

In singles competition, sophomore Parker Ross was eliminated in the first round after a 6-4, 6-2 loss to eighth-seeded Ryler DeHeart of Illinois. Ross teamed with sophomore Chaitu Malempati in doubles competition, defeating Notre Dame’s Stephen Bass and Paul Hidaka (8-4). The duo was eliminated in the second round by ninth-seeded Anthony Jackson and Michael Rubin of Michigan (8-0).

In other doubles action, freshman Ryan Reid and sophomore Aaron Schaechterle were edged by Northwestern’s Jamie Friedland and Justin Hoeveler. Freshmen Jonny Hoak and Walter Valearezo were winners over Illinois’ Conner Murnighan and Evan Zeder. They were later defeated by Indiana’s Ryan Recht and John Stone (8-3).

The Hawkeyes will have two weeks off to prepare for the Big Ten singles tournament, November 15-17 at Ann Arbor, MI.
