ROSEMONT, IL – Iowa senior Jennie Lillis was named to the 2003-04 Preseason All-Big Ten team by the media Sunday morning at the annual Big Ten Conference Media Day.
Lillis, who was a preseason all-Big Ten selection last year, enters her final season with the Hawkeyes with 1,299 career points and 647 career rebounds. The native of Urbandale, IA, was also an all-Big Ten first team pick last season after averaging 16.3 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per contest.
Lillis, who is a three-time Iowa captain, joined Penn State’s Kelly Mazzante and Tanisha Wright, Minnesota’s Lindsay Whalen and Purdue’s Shereka Wright on the all-Conference squad. Mazzante was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year by the media and as the Preseason Co-Player of the Year by the coaches. Whalen was the coaches’ additional selection as Preseason Co-Player of the Year.
Penn State was tabbed as the preseason favorite for the 2003-04 season by the coaches, followed by Purdue and Minnesota. The Boilermakers were chosen as the preseason favorite by the media, followed by the Lady Lions and Golden Gophers.
The Hawkeyes play their first of two exhibition games Nov. 6, against Athletes In Action at 7:05 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. One week later, Iowa concludes its exhibition schedule vs. South Dakota State on Nov. 13 at 7:05 p.m.
