Hawkeyes Fall to South Alabama

MOBILE, AL – The Iowa men’s tennis team lost its seventh dual of the season in a 7-0 loss to 47th-ranked South Alabama Friday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Jaguars of South Alabama started off strong, sweeping the doubles point. Chaitu Malempati and Scott Elwell put up a fight in the No. 1 spot, trading the first four games but could not answer as the South Alabama duo put up six unanswered points to take the match 8-2.

Iowa also faced tough competition in singles action. Jonny Hoak could not rally in the No. 3 spot against Clinton Jacobs of South Alabama, falling 6-2, 6-4. Walter Valarezo fought hard in the first set in the No. 4 spot against Jorgen Vestli but came up short, falling 7-5, 6-1.

Iowa (3-7, 0-2) will conclude its spring trip Sunday when it faces Troy State. Competition is schedule to begin at 8 a.m. (CT) at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
