Austin, TX – In the final day of competition at the Longhorn Invitational, the University of Iowa women’s rowing team won two of four against Duke. The Hawkeyes finished the weekend with five total wins, with the V4+ winning all of their races.
The V4+, comprised of Lori Rehel, Allison Frederick, Sophie Nielsen, Kathleen Lehman and Katie Moe, completed an undefeated weekend by defeating Duke with a time of 7:30.2. The 1N8+ was also victorious over Duke, finishing with a time of 7:13.2 and topping Duke’s time of 7:33.1.
The V8+ and 2V8+ did not fare as well against Duke. The V8+ came close to defeating Duke, falling by only five seconds. Duke posted a time of 6:36.6, while the Hawkeyes timed a 6:41.8. The 2V8+ finished with a time of 7:01.3, falling to Duke’s time of 6:48.7.
The 2N8+ finished the weekend with a race against Texas. Iowa finished with a time of 7:35.6, but fell short of Texas’ time of 7:22.6.
“The effects of a long week and a lot of racing were evident today. We didn’t look as sharp and our technical strengths from previous races were missing. This weekend provided us with an opportunity to point out our weaknesses and provide motivation for the next competition. We will be working to bring the rating up in the future while maintaining our technique,” commented Head Coach Mandi Kowal.
The Hawkeyes will next take to the water on Saturday, March 27, when they host Kansas State.
