The Iowa women’s tennis team was defeated by the Northwestern Wildcats, 6-1, Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes drop to 4-3 in the Big Ten.

Iowa’s lone point came at the No. 5 singles spot. Deni Alexandrova defeated Andrea Yung in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, to earn a point. At the top of the lineup, the Hawkeyes faced nationally-ranked competition. Third-ranked Cristelle Grier defeated Meg Racette at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-0. Hillary Mintz took 55th-ranked Jessica Rush to three sets, but lost, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7). In doubles, Racette and Mintz faced the second-ranked team of Grier and Rush, losing 8-5.

The Hawkeyes will compete next when they host Indiana April 17 beginning at 10 a.m.
