Zalesky Names New Staff

IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa Head Wrestling Coach Jim Zalesky has named Troy Steiner and Tim Hartung as assistant coaches, Mike Zadick as volunteer coach and Cliff Moore as strength and conditioning coach.

Steiner, who was a four-time all-American at Iowa from 1990-93 and an NCAA Champion in 1992, has owned and operated the ADVANCE School of Wrestling in Madison, WI, for the last four years. He also served as an assistant coach at Wisconsin (1997-2001), Minnesota (1996-97) and Oregon State (1995-96).

Hartung, who earned the 1999 Big Ten Medal of Honor, won two NCAA and three Big Ten titles for Minnesota (1997-99). The three-time all-American has served as a member of the Gopher staff for the past five seasons. His responsibilities included strength coordinator (1999-2000), marketing and promotions coordinator (2000-02), and development coordinator (2002-04). Minnesota won three Big Ten (2001-03) and two NCAA titles in (2001-02) while he was on staff.

Zadick was a three-time all-American (2000-02) at Iowa, winning the 149-pound Big Ten title in 2002. He placed second at 60 kg/132 pounds at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team trials and U.S. Nationals.

Moore won the 2004 NCAA title at 141 pounds for the Hawkeyes. The three-time all-American also won two Big Ten titles for the Hawkeyes.

“I’m excited to work with this staff,” explained Zalesky. “These guys have the qualities and work ethic that I was looking for. They will be able to step in and help get us back to the top.”
