Iowa Captures Hawkeye Intercollegiate Title

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa men’s and women’s golf teams captured victories today at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate. The men continued to improve shooting a 286 to give them 871 strokes for the tournament, two ahead of Southwest Missouri State. The women finished with 943, ten strokes ahead of Northern Iowa. This marks the first time the Hawkeye women have won this tournament since 2000 and is the sixth time they’ve won it overall.

Leading the way for the men’s squad was Luke Miller. Miller shot a final round 69 and finished sixth. Finishing right behind Miller in seventh place was Brian deBuhr. deBuhr carded a 78 today to drop from second place to seventh. Todd Larson fired a 69 today to finish tied for ninth. Jon Feldick and Andy Tiedt tied for 22nd with a three-round total of 227.

Liz Bennett tied for first, shooting a 77 and bringing her tournament total to 224. Amy Riepma carded a 74, her best round of the tournament, and finished fifth. Jill Marcum was the third Hawkeye to finish in the top ten. Marcum finished ninth with a tournament total of 240. Karla Murra finished in a tie for 16th with 246. Brittany Lambert finished the tournament with 256, putting her in a tie for 32nd.

Next week, the men’s team heads to Memphis for the Memphis Intercollegiate while the women do not compete again until October 11-12.
