BLOOMINGTON – The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in Bloomington.
Margot McMahon led the way with a hat trick. It was the second-career three-goal game for the St. Louis native.
Senior goalkeeper Barb Weinberg got the win, making six saves.
The Hawkeyes (4-5) opened the scoring in the final five minutes of the first half on McMahon’s first goal of the game.
Indiana (6-4) tied the game at 46:53 with a goal from Lydia Schrott on a penalty corner. McMahon re-gained the lead for the Hawkeyes four minutes later with her second unassisted goal.
Freshman Caroline Blaum scored her first career goal at the 56:18 mark off an assist from senior Sarah Dawson. McMahon added an insurance goal on a penalty stroke with 1:32 left in the game.
Iowa returns to action Thursday, October 7 against Pacific. The game will start at 3 p.m. and be played on Grant Field.
