IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, 2-0. Caroline Blaum and Margot McMahon collected goals for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa’s first goal came at the 25:58 mark when Blaum made a beautiful move to free herself for the score to put Iowa in the lead, 1-0. Iowa converted on one of their six corners at the 49:58 mark when McMahon blasted a shot off a pass from Sarah Dawson to give Iowa the lead, 2-0.
The Hawkeyes recorded 13 shots on the day and held Ohio State to only three. Barb Weinberg had a solid performance, recording three saves and stopped a penalty stroke in the first half to preserve the shutout.
The Hawkeyes return to competition on Sunday when they face the Michigan Wolverines. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
