The University of Iowa women’s tennis team travels to Lincoln, NE this weekend to face Nebraska Friday at 2 p.m. and Washington State Saturday at 10 a.m. Competition will take place at the Woods Tennis Center. Admission is free.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Cornhuskers are ranked 74th nationally. They have a veteran team of two seniors, four juniors and two freshmen. Gitte Ostermann is ranked 19th nationally in singles.

Nebraska is 4-0 this season with wins over Creighton, Colorado State, Wyoming and Southwest Missouri State.

Iowa Versus Nebraska

The Hawkeyes lead the series, 14-3, against the Cornhuskers. The last time the two teams met, in 1999, Iowa won. Nebraska last won against the Hawkeyes in 1985.

The Washington State Cougars

Washington State is ranked 68th in the nation and is 2-1. The team consists of three seniors, one junior, one sophomore and two freshmen. They have lost to No. 25 BYU and won against Idaho and Eastern Washington.

Cougar Nora Gaal is tied for eighth in Nebraska’s career singles wins with 63. Teammate Chris Martinez is ninth with 62 wins.

Iowa Versus Washington State

Washington State won the only meeting between the two teams in 1997, winning 8-1.

Noteworthy Against Drake nad Denver

Iowa swept Drake, 7-0. Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz defeated Denver’s 30th-ranked doubles team of Yanick Dullens and Suzana Maksovic, 9-8 (5). Mintz went on to win her singles match at the No. 2 position against Maksovic, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1. Anastasia Zhukova also won her singles match, defeating Barbara Kourim, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot.

Hawkeyes In the Rankings

In the ITA poll, the Hawkeyes are ranked 44th nationally. Meg Racette is ranked 103rd. Racette and Hillary Mintz, are ranked 55th in doubles.
