The University of Iowa women’s tennis team, now 2-2, travels to Milwaukee, WI to face Marquette Friday at 4 p.m. and Bowling Green Saturday at noon. Competition will take place at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Marquette Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles are 2-4, with wins over Northern Illinois and Illinois-Chicago. Losses have come against Illinois, Colorado, Xavier and Illinois State. Marquette’s team is composed of three freshmen and five sophomores. Sophomore Callan Smith is the top player for the Golden Eagles.
Iowa Versus Marquette
The Hawkeyes lead the series, 8-1, against the Golden Eagles. Iowa last defeated Marquette in 2004. Marquette’s lone win against the Hawkeyes was in 1998.
The Bowling Green Falcons
The Falcons are 5-2, winning against Wright State, Youngstown State, Butler, Indiana State and Illinois-Chicago. Bowling Green’s two losses were against Michigan State and DePaul. Senior Susie Shoenberger is the top player for the Falcons.
Iowa Versus Bowling Green
Iowa won the only meeting between the two teams in 1983.
Last Match Notes
Iowa fell to Nebraska, 5-2. Hillary Mintz and Anastasia Zhukova were the only Hawkeyes to win. Iowa edged Washington State, 4-3. Hilary Tyler and Morgan Tuttle won their doubles match, 8-1. In singles, Iowa’s Mintz, Zhukova, Jacqueline Lee and Milica Veselinovic won.
Hawkeyes On Fire
Hillary Mintz and Anastasia Zhukova are both 6-0 this spring. Each has two tournament wins and four dual victories. Mintz plays at the No. 2 position, while Zhukova is No. 3.
Hawkeyes In the Rankings
In the ITA poll, the Hawkeyes are ranked 57th nationally. Meg Racette is ranked 103rd. Racette and Hillary Mintz are ranked 55th in doubles.
