Hawkeyes Advance Four To Semifinals

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa wrestling team advanced four wrestlers to tonight’s semifinals at the 2005 Big Ten Championships in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes are in fifth place with 47.0 points after today’s first session. Illinois leads the team standings with 56.5. The team race is tight as only 3.5 points separate first from fourth place in the team standings.

Hawkeye juniors Mario Galanakis (133), Ty Eustice (149) and Joe Johnston (157) and redshirt freshman Mark Perry (165) have all advanced to tonight’s semifinals. Still competing in the consolation bracket for Iowa are juniors Paul Bradley (184) and Adam Fellers (197) and freshmen Charlie Falck (125), Alex Tsirtsis (141), Luke Lofthouse (174) and Matt Fields (Hwt.)

Saturday night’s session will feature the championships semifinals and two rounds of consolation matches. Wrestling will being at 6 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tickets for tonight’s session ($15 for adults, $8 for youth) are available at the Iowa Athletic Ticket Office.
