IOWA CITY, IA

The 58th-ranked Iowa women’s tennis team dominated Kansas, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes improve to 6-3 overall.

Iowa swept the doubles competition to earn a point. Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz defeated Brittany Brown and Lauren Hommell, 8-3, at the No. 1 position. Anastasia Zhukova and Hilary Tyler won at the No. 2 spot against Christine Skoda and Ashley Filberth, 8-4. At the No. 3 spot, Milica Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee earned a hard-fought victory against Elizaveta Avdeeva and Luiza Loureiro, 8-5.

Zhukova quickly defeated Skoda at the No. 2 singles spot, 6-3, 6-3. Tyler earned a win at the No. 4 spot against Hommell, 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 3 position, Veselinovic upended Brown, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the win for Iowa. Racette battled Avdeeva, winning in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (7). Morgan Tuttle won against Filberth at the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 7-6 (4). At No. 6 singles, Lee had a strong showing against Marina Bugauenco, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

The Hawkeyes will next compete Sunday, March 13 at Abilene Christian.
