DEN HELDER, NETHERLANDS – The Big Ten Foreign Tour Team continued its dominance of the Netherlands National Team Wednesday with a decisive 107-52 triumph. The Foreign Tour Team opened competition Tuesday with an impressive 119-56 victory over the Netherlands, which marked the highest point total and the second largest margin of victory for the All-Stars in the Tour’s 13-year history.
Iowa senior Crystal Smith scored four points (2-6 FG) and also collected two rebounds and two assists en route to victory. Penn State’s Adrienne Squire scored a game-high 19 points, while Northwestern’s Ifeoma Okonkwo added 13 in the winning effort.
Wednesday’s game format was slightly different for the Big Ten student-athletes as the game was played in quarters rather than halves. After holding the Netherlands to just 24 points in the first half in Tuesday’s game, the All-Stars took a 59-23 lead into halftime and did not allow the National Team more than 15 points in a quarter in Wednesday’s rout.
The squad includes players from 10 of the 11 Conference institutions. The Big Ten Foreign Tour will conclude its three-game set with the Netherlands in Amsterdam Thursday. Following a day off for sightseeing, the competition will resume on Saturday in Aalst, Belgium against the Belgium National Team. The Tour will conclude on Monday with a contest in Brussels against Luxembourg.
