IOWA CITY – Four University of Iowa field hockey players were named to the United States National Under-21 team this week. Junior-to-be Heather Schnepf, sophomores-to-be Caroline Blaum and Kadi Sickel, along with incoming freshman Lauren Pfeiffer, will all represent the Hawkeyes on the U.S. Under-21 team.
Iowa’s four representatives on the Under-21 team ties it with Michigan and Wake Forest for the most of any college team.
Schnepf was also chosen to play in the Junior World Cup September 14-25 in Santiago, Chile. The U.S. team will enter the 16-team Junior World Cup as the No. 9 seed. The USA will begin play in Pool A with top-seeded The Netherlands, No. 8 England and No. 16 Zimbabwe.
“We are thrilled to see so many of our players selected by the Under-21 team,” Iowa Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum said. “As a coaching staff, we were able to watch them throughout the tryouts and they all played very well. Each one will represent both the University of Iowa and the United States well.”
