Hawkeye Successful At Riveria

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – Iowa Hawkeye Meg Racette defeated Anca Anastasiu 6-1, 7-5 in consolation play yesterday at the Riveria/ITA All-American Championships. She earlier fell to Melissa Anderson of Harvard. Anastasiu, of USC is ranked 28th in the nation in preseason rankings.

Racette will compete today against Daniela Covello of Baylor. The winner will advance to quarterfinals of qualifying play.

Racette also competed in doubles play with teammate Hillary Mintz yesterday, falling to Dominika Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos of Oregon, 8-4.

“This is a huge win for Meg,” says Iowa Head Coach Daryl Greenan. “She has set some lofty goals for herself this season and beating the 28th ranked player in the country early in the season gives her a head start and confidence to help her reach those goals.”

Mintz and Racette competed in this meet last year.
Mintz finished with a 2-1 record in 2004 while Racette finished 2-2.
