THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to Coral Gables, FL for the Miami Hurricane Fall Invite, Friday through Sunday. Competition will take place at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Hawkeyes Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, and Krissy Dowlin, Meg Racette, Mili Veselinovic, Hillary Mintz, and Jacqueline Lee all begin competition Friday.

THE COMPETITION — The 45th ranked Hawkeyes will face players from #8 ranked Miami, #13 Vanderbilt, and # 32 Florida International. This is the final fall competition for the Hawkeyes.

LAST MEET — The Hawkeyes competed at the Midwest Regionals in East Lansing, MI, October 20-25. Meg Racette advanced to quarterfinal play in the singles main draw and then fell to the top seeded player, Cristelle Grier of Northwestern, 6-4, 6-3. Mili Veselinovic advanced through two rounds of main draw action, eventually falling to the number two seed, Catrina Thompson of Notre Dame, 7-5, 6-3. In doubles consolation highlights, Kayla Berry and Krissy Dowlin defeated Berdala/Perton of Indiana, 9-7, while Mili Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee defeated Hager/Vervynckt of IP-Fort Wayne, 8-2.

HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan — Coach Greenan is in his second season as head coach for the Hawkeyes. He led the Hawkeyes to a 14-10 overall record in 2005, going 8-4 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place finish in the conference. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fourth season with the Hawkeyes.

QUOTING HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan — “Being the lowest ranked team in the tournament, we are definitely the underdogs. We have nothing to lose so I hope the girls play aggressively and come out with some big wins. Playing higher ranked teams provides us with the competition and the opportunities we need to get better and move up in the rankings.”
