Hawkeyes Play In Florida

CORAL GABLES, FL – The Iowa women’s tennis team completed day one of competition today at the Hurricane Fall Invitational. The Hawkeyes saw action in doubles and singles. Iowa was able to capture two wins against competition from Miami and Vanderbilt.

Two Hawkeye teams competed today in doubles matches. Junior Meg Racette and sophomore Milica Veselinovic beat Sveke and Betrand of Vanderbilt, 9-7. Junior Hillary Mintz teamed with sophomore Jacqueline Lee to play Yahner and Ulery of Vanderbilt. The Hawkeye team lost this match, 9-8 (7-4).

Six Hawkeyes played singles matches today. Racette was the only Hawkeye to win in singles, beating Applebaum of Miami, 6-3, 6-1. Mintz, Veselinovic, Lee and freshmen Merel Beelen, and Krissy Dowlin all suffered losses to Miami in singles play.

Competition will resume tomorrow morning at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
