DENVER, CO – The Iowa women’s tennis team fell to #49 Denver today, 5-2, after a hard-fought battle.
Iowa (1-2) was ahead after doubles, winning the point with two successful matches. Meg Racette and Jacqueline Lee defeated Suzana Maksovic and Kyla Iwinski, 9-7, and Hillary Mintz and Milica Veselinovic defeated Annette Aksdal and Rachel Sackmaster, 9-8.
In singles play, Iowa was not as successful, only winning one match of six. Sophomore Jacqueline Lee defeated Marisa Mechem, 7-5, 6-2.
“Denver was a little too much for us today. Our team played very hard and very well, and after winning the doubles point I thought we had a lot of momentum going into singles play but we just couldn’t finish with the win,” said Iowa Head Coach Daryl Greenan.
The #43 Iowa Hawkeyes return to action tomorrow against Colorado State in Fort Collins, CO.
