IOWA CITY – KXIC Radio AM 800 Iowa City will provide live radio play-by-play of up to 46 regular season and 2006 Big Ten Conference Tournament games of the University of Iowa baseball team, the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Monday.
Brent Balbinot, KXIC’s sports director and the voice of University of Iowa women’s basketball, will handle play-by-play responsibilities. He will be joined in the broadcast booth by former Hawkeyes Kurt Vitense and Troy Wulf.
KXIC’s broadcast schedule begins on Friday, Mar. 24, when Coach Jack Dahm’s Hawkeyes open a three-game homestand against IUPU-Fort Wayne. It continues through Iowa’s non-conference season including its Apr. 4 exhibition game against the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines, its Apr. 11 home date against Big 12 Conference powerhouse Nebraska, and the 2006 Corridor Classic against Northern Iowa Apr. 26 in Cedar Rapids.
Coverage of the Hawkeyes’ 2006 regular season will begin with the team’s four-game homestand against Ohio State the last weekend of March at Duane Banks Field.
“Obviously, we’re delighted with the commitment of KXIC Radio. We believe it reflects the excitement that’s being generated by our baseball team among baseball fans in the community and fans of the Hawkeyes across the state,” said Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletics director for external affairs.
“We also hope that the broadcasts help to build interest in the team and Big Ten baseball to the point that listeners will become spectators and that they’ll bring their friends or family and their radio with them to a few home games.”
KXIC is an affiliate of the Hawkeye Radio Network and a long-time friend of the intercollegiate athletics program at the UI.
