Dan Erekson (197) was defeated in a pigtail match by Darren Burns of UNC-Greensboro, 5-1.

Magnani impressed in his opening round win over Chris Clarke of Slippery Rock, recording two takedowns and a reversal en route to posting an 8-0 major decision win. That match was followed by a second Hawkeye shutout, when seventh-seeded Tsirtsis blanked David Pienaar of Slippery Rock 6-0. Magnani will face second-seeded Sam Hazewinkel of Oklahoma tonight, while Tsirtsis will battle No. 10 Ron Tarquinio of Pittsburgh.
