<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LOUISVILLE, KY- The University of Iowa men’s tennis team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Louisville Invitational Friday. Six Hawkeyes were undefeated in singles play and three of four doubles teams were victorious.
In the first round of doubles action, the Hawkeyes won three of their four matches. Juniors Bart van Monsjou and J.P. Ritchie teamed up to defeat brothers Chad and Andy True from Western Kentucky, 8-0. Freshman Patrick Dwyer paired with sophomore Greg Holm to defeat Perton and Hartig of Dayton, 8-5. Freshman Reinoud Haal and senior Scott Elwell secured Iowa’s third win as they took down Nestrud and Rutherford of Eastern Illinois, 9-8 (9-7).
In singles play, freshman Tommy McGeorge, van Monsjou, Ritchie, Haal, Elwell and Holm each won their two matches. Sophomore Christian Bierich was defeated in two Flight A singles matches. Dwyer was 1-1 in Flight B singles.
The Hawkeyes will resume play Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis center.
