Sophomore midfielder Lauren Pfeiffer was named National Player of the Week by www.WomensFieldHockey.com. It is Pfeiffer’s first weekly honor of her career.
Pfeiffer earned the award by scoring five of Iowa’s six goals on the way to winning the Big Ten Tournament. Pfeiffer’s five goals were the second most in Big Ten Tournament history. She helped the Hawkeyes defeat No. 15 Michigan, No. 5 Ohio State and No. 6 Penn State. Pfeiffer recorded two goals against Michigan, one against Ohio State and two more against Penn State in the championship game. Pfeiffer was also named tournament MVP.
The Hawkeyes return to action on Saturday in the NCAA tournament. Their opponent will be announced tonight during the NCAA Selection Show on CSTV at 6:30 p.m.
