THIS WEEK

The Iowa women’s tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa, AL this weekend. The Hawkeyes will face Furman, Saturday at 12 p.m., and Alabama, Sunday at 11 a.m. Competition will take place at Hank Crisp Indoor Facility on the University of Alabama campus.

THE HAWKEYES

Iowa is currently ranked 58th in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Competing for the Hawkeyes will be Jennifer Barnes, Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, Kelcie Klockenga, Jacqueline Lee, Hillary Mintz, and Mili Veselinovic.

THIS SEASON

Sophomore Merel Beelen is 4-0, and currently on a nine match winning streak, dating back to November 11th. Mili Veselinovic has won five of her last six singles matches, and has won all five doubles matches this spring.

THE COMPETITION

Furman is currently ranked 71st. This will be the first meeting between Iowa and Furman. Alabama is ranked 57th. Iowa has a 0-1 all time record against Alabama. Iowa played Alabama in 1982, losing 8-1 in the competition.

LAST WEEK

Iowa hosted Indiana State and Denver, losing both matches, 4-3. Beelen and Veselinovic won both singles matches they competed in, and Veselinovic went 2-0 in doubles competition with Jacqueline Lee.

HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan

Coach Greenan is in his third season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. Greenan led the Hawkeyes to an 18-6 overall record in 2006, going 9-1 in Big Ten competition for a second place league finish. Greenan has a 32-16 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fifth season with the Hawkeyes.
