TUSCALOOSA, AL – Iowa defeated No. 69 Furman Saturday, 6-1. Iowa claimed the doubles point and five singles wins in the competition. Iowa moves to 2-3 on the season.
In doubles play, Iowa’s duo of Mili Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee defeated Furman’s Lauren Tomory and Lauren Osborne, 8-3, while Merel Beelen and Kayla Berry won their doubles match against Bonnie Baird and Elizabeth Bornt-Davis with a score of 8-6. Hillary Mintz and Kelcie Klockenga were defeated at the number one singles position by Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic, 8-3.
In singles action, Iowa played strongly with five singles wins. Veselinovic defeated Osborne, 6-3, 6-3 at the number two position while Mintz defeated Baird, 6-1, 6-2 at the third spot and Klockenga won at the fourth position with a score of 6-3, 6-1 over Manojlovic.
At the number five singles spot, Berry was successful, defeating Tomory, 6-1, 6-0, and Beelen won at the sixth position, defeating Wanjiku Ngaruiya, 6-0, 6-0. Beelen improves her dual record to 5-0 with the win. Iowa’s only singles loss of the day came at the number one position, with Gioia defeating Lee, 6-1, 6-4.
Iowa will face Alabama today at 11 a.m.
