No. 61 Hawkeyes Return To Competition At Home

THIS WEEK
The Iowa women’s tennis team will host DePaul, Friday at 6 p.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Iowa will then compete at Notre Dame, Sunday. Competition will take place at the Eck Tennis Pavilion at 10 a.m.

THE HAWKEYES
Iowa is currently ranked 61st in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Competing for the Hawkeyes will be Jennifer Barnes, Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, Kelcie Klockenga, Jacqueline Lee, Hillary Mintz, and Mili Veselinovic.

THIS SEASON
Sophomore Merel Beelen is 6-0, and currently on an 11-match winning streak, dating back to November 11th. Mili Veselinovic has won seven of her last eight singles matches, and has won six of seven doubles matches this spring.

THE COMPETITION
DePaul is currently unranked. Iowa played DePaul in 2001 and won, 6-1. Iowa has a 7-0 all time record against DePaul. Notre Dame is currently ranked second, with a 9-1 record. Freshman Colleen Rielley is ranked 31st while senior Catrina Thompson is ranked 41st. Iowa played Notre Dame in 2005, and lost, 0-7. Iowa has a 1-12 all time record against Notre Dame.

LAST COMPETITION
Iowa traveled to Tuscaloosa, AL, February 11th and 12th to compete against Furman and Alabama. Iowa defeated Furman, 6-1, and Alabama, 4-3. Beelen, Veselinovic, and Hillary Mintz all won both singles matches.

HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan
Coach Greenan is in his third season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. Greenan led the Hawkeyes to an 18-6 overall record in 2006, going 9-1 in Big Ten competition for a second place league finish. Greenan has a 32-16 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fifth season with the Hawkeyes.
