THIS WEEK
The Iowa women’s tennis team will host Kansas, Friday at 3 p.m. and Minnesota, Sunday at 11 a.m. The match against Minnesota will be both team’s conference opener. Competition will be held at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, and admission is free.
THE HAWKEYES
Iowa is currently ranked 59th in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings with a 4-4 overall record. Competing for the Hawkeyes will be Jennifer Barnes, Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, Kelcie Klockenga, Jacqueline Lee, Hillary Mintz, and Mili Veselinovic.
THIS SEASON
Sophomore Merel Beelen is 7-1 and has won 12 of her last 13 matches. Mili Veselinovic has won eight of her last ten singles matches, and has won six of nine doubles matches this spring.
THE COMPETITION
Kansas is currently unranked with a 2-8 record. Iowa played Kansas last year and won, 4-3. Iowa has a 7-6 all time record against Kansas. Minnesota is currently unranked with a 4-3 record. Iowa played Minnesota in 2006, and won, 4-3. Iowa has a 17-30 all time record against Notre Dame.
LAST COMPETITION
Iowa hosted DePaul, February 23rd and won, 6-1. Iowa won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches in the competition. Iowa then traveled to second-ranked Notre Dame, February 25th, and lost, 7-0.
HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan
Coach Greenan is in his third season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. Greenan led the Hawkeyes to an 18-6 overall record in 2006, going 9-1 in Big Ten competition for a second place league finish. Greenan has a 32-16 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fifth season with the Hawkeyes.
