Four Hawkeyes Earn Academic Recognition

IOWA CITY –

University of Iowa field hockey players Lauren Pfeiffer, Tricia Dean, Kelly Hondros and Lissa Munley, have been named to the National Academic Squad by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

The National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or better during the first semester of the 06-07 school year.

“Our program takes academics very seriously.” Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum said. “This accomplishment is something that we are extremely proud of. It’s great that our coaches association recognizes these outstanding achievements.”

Pfeiffer, a sophomore from Mt. Laurel, NJ, played a vital role on the Hawkeyes way to the Big Ten Tournament. She scored five goals in the span of three games, an effort that earned her the title of Big Ten Tournament Most Valuable Player. Pfeiffer ended the season tied for the team lead in goals (10) and points scored (22).

Dean, a freshman from Bear, DE, started all 21 games for the Hawkeye and recorded one goal.

Hondros, a freshman from Columbus, OH, played in 20 of the Hawkeyes 21 games. She scored one goal and one assist during the season.Munley, a sophomore goalkeeper from Mountain Top, PA, started 20 of the 21 games. She recorded two shut-outs, with one coming in the semifinal game of the Big Ten Tournament against nationally ranked Ohio State. Munley had 78 saves with a save percentage of .684 on the season.

The Hawkeyes will compete in the Midwest Spring League, with their first league game at Evanston, IL, on March 31.
