Sweet Named Big Ten Player of the Week

March 6, 2007

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa baseball player Travis Sweet has been named Big Ten Player of the Week. The announcement came from the Big Ten Conference office.

Sweet led the Hawkeye offense last weekend as they won the Stetson Tournament with wins over Notre Dame and No. 7 Nebraska. He hit .750 (6-of-8) on the weekend with four RBIs and five runs scored. He also added two stolen bases and an outfield assist.

Against Notre Dame, Sweet was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. In Iowa’s upset of Nebraska, the junior from Cedar Rapids charged the offense after the Hawkeyes fell into an 8-0 hole. His solo home run in the sixth off Husker ace Tony Watson kept Iowa in the game. He followed that up with a two-run single in the seventh and game-tying RBI in the bottom of the eighth.

Iowa (3-1) returns to action next Monday with a game at Fresno State (8:05 p.m. CST).
