Hawkeyes Return Home, Hosting Indiana And Ohio State

THIS WEEK

The Iowa women’s tennis team will host Indiana, Friday at 3 p.m. and Ohio State Sunday at 11 a.m. Competition will take place at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Admission is free to the public.

THE HAWKEYES

Iowa is currently ranked 52nd in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings with a 5-6 record, including 1-0 in the Big Ten. Competing for the Hawkeyes will be Jennifer Barnes, Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, Kelcie Klockenga, Jacqueline Lee, Hillary Mintz and Mili Veselinovic.

THIS SEASON

Sophomore Merel Beelen is 9-2 and has won 14 of her last 16 matches. Mili Veselinovic has won 10 of her last 13 singles matches.

THE COMPETITION

Indiana is ranked 38th with an 11-3 overall record, including 1-0 in Big Ten play. Iowa defeated Indiana in 2006 at Bloomington, 4-3, and has a 7-25 overall record against the Hoosiers. Ohio State is unranked with a 9-4 overall record, including 1-0 in conference play. The Hawkeyes defeated the Buckeyes last season at Columbus, 4-3. Iowa has a 20-14 all-time record against Ohio State.

LAST COMPETITION

Iowa traveled to California, first facing San Diego State and then Long Beach State. Iowa was defeated by both teams, 4-3. Lee and Veselinovic were successful in both singles matches they competed in last week.

HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan

Coach Greenan is in his third season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. Greenan led the Hawkeyes to an 18-6 overall record in 2006, going 9-1 in Big Ten competition for a second place league finish. Greenan has a 32-16 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and is in her fifth season with the Hawkeyes.
