Hawkeyes Fall To Iowa State, 3-0

Des Moines, IA – The University of Iowa volleyball team was defeated by Iowa State, 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the Hampton Inn State of Iowa Volleyball Challenge. Iowa now trails Iowa State, 4-0, in the 2007-08 Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series.

Iowa struggled offensively, hitting just .147 as a team. The Cyclones out-blocked the Hawkeyes, 15.5-3.

Sophomore Megan Schipper led the Hawkeyes with 12 kills while freshman Aimee Huffman tallied 10 kills and 10 assists. Junior Kiley Fister had 21 assists in the loss.

Iowa State took an early 1-0 lead in the match after winning game one, 30-25. Both teams traded points until Iowa State took a 12-11 lead and never trailed after gaining the one point advantage.

The Cyclones took a 2-0 lead with a 30-22 win in game two. Iowa led the game, 9-8, but a 9-1 Cyclone run gave them a 16-10 lead. Iowa State never trailed after a 10-9 lead, but the Hawkeyes battled late in the game. Iowa took advantage of nine Cyclone errors and back-to-back kills by junior Laura Kremer and Schipper to bring the Hawkeyes within two at 24-22. Iowa State responded with a 6-0 run to end the match as the team’s headed to the locker rooms.

Iowa couldn’t fight back against the Cyclones, dropping game three, 30-23. The Hawkeyes tied the game at 1-1, but Iowa State took the lead on the next point and never trailed in the game.

The Hawkeyes return to action Saturday night at 5:30 against No. 21 LSU in their final match of the Hampton Inn State of Iowa Volleyball Challenge.
