IOWA CITY – The Big Ten Conference named University of Iowa junior back Roz Ellis as Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her play in Iowa’s 2-1 overtime win against No. 9 Penn State. This is Ellis’ first career Big Ten weekly honor.
Ellis led the Hawkeyes past Penn State by making many crucial defensive stops, while allowing only one goal. She has helped the Hawkeyes to five shutouts this season. Ellis has recorded Iowa’s only defensive save and is second on the team in goals (7).
This marks the fourth weekly honor that the Hawkeyes have received this season. Goalkeeper Lissa Munley and back Meghan Beamesderfer have earned the defensive award (Sept. 3, Sept. 17) while midfielder Lauren Pfeiffer was honored with the offensive award (Oct. 8).
The fifth-ranked Hawkeyes will host Northwestern in a non-conference game at Grant Field, at 3 p.m.
