Hawkeyes To Compete At Landfall Tradition

THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa men’s golf team will travel to Wilmington, NC, to compete in the Landfall Tradition this weekend. The tournament will be held on the Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall. Competition consists of 54 holes, beginning Friday. Teams will play 18 holes each day, with play concluding Sunday.

COUNTRY CLUB OF LANDFALL — The Nicklaus Course consists of 27 holes. The original 18 holes were completed in 1990 while the final nine holes were finished in 2001. Each nine, Pines, Ocean and Marsh, is named due to its terrain.

THE COMPETITION — Teams competing along with Iowa are UNC-Wilmington, Georgia Southern, Kansas, Ohio State, Purdue, Tulsa, Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia Tech, William & Mary and Xavier.

Senior Todd        Larson finished one shot behind with a 223. Larson tied for 60th. In addition, senior        Dan        Holterhaus tied for 65th with a 224.        

HEAD COACH Mark Hankins — Hankins is in his first year as Iowa’s head men’s golf coach. He was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, at Michigan State, in 2005 and 2007 after leading the Spartans to Big Ten Championships. Hankins also led the Spartans to five NCAA tournament appearances in his seven years as head coach. He is a native of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and a graduate of Iowa State University.
