Five Hawkeyes Earn All-Regional Honors

IOWA CITY – Five members of the University of Iowa field hockey team were selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association West Region all-America team. First team selections were juniors Caroline Blaum, Lauren Pfeiffer and sophomore Meghan Beamesderfer. Second team honorees include senior Kadi Sickel and junior Roz Ellis.

Blaum, a forward from Wilkes-Barre, PA, earns her first all-Region honor of her career. She was named Big Ten Tournament Most Valuable Player and National Player of the Week by NationalFieldHockey.com. Blaum is a 2007 first team all-Big Ten selection. She led the Hawkeyes in assists (11) along with six goals.

Pfeiffer, a midfielder from Mt. Laurel, NJ, earns her second all-Region honor of her career. Last season, she was named to the second team. Pfeiffer is a 2007 first team all-Big Ten selection and named was Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, Oct. 8. She led the conference in shots (92), goals (15), points (38) and was second on the team in assists (8).

Beamesderfer, a back from Lititz, PA, earns her second all-Region honor of her career. Last season, she was named to the second team. Beamesderfer is a first team all-Big Ten honoree and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Sept. 7.

Ellis, a back/midfielder from Lewisburg, PA, earns her first all-Region honor. She is a 2007 first team all-Big Ten selection and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Oct. 22. Ellis recorded career highs in shots (25), goals (8), assists (3) and points (19).

Sickel, a back from Plaistow, NH, earns her second all-Region honor. She was a second team honoree in 2006. Sickel earned 2007 second team all-Big Ten recognition and was selected to the NFHCA Division I senior all-star game. She scored three goals on only 11 shots on this season.
