Nov. 29, 2007

IOWA CITY, IA — The University of Iowa has announced the signing of talented Canadian women’s tennis recruit Sonja Molnar to a national letter of intent. The announcement came today from Iowa Head Coach Daryl Greenan.

Molnar is a native of Guelph, Ontario. She is a talented and highly ranked Canadian player expected to make an immediate impact for the Hawkeyes, according to Coach Greenan. Sonja is currently the second ranked junior in the province of Ontario and one of the best in Canada. She has just recently begun to make an impact in the junior international scene. Earlier this fall, Molnar won her first ITF Junior title, at the U18 World Ranking Event 2, in her home country. In just her fourth International event she managed to earn three wins over world top 400 juniors, including a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory over a top 200 junior.

“We are excited that Sonja has chosen to become a Hawkeye,” said Greenan. “She is a strong student/athlete with the potential to help take our program to the next level. I have been very impressed with Sonja’s progress and recent success. I look forward to her arrival in Iowa City. She will be a huge asset to our program and will fit in well with our team.”
