CEDAR FALLS, IA — The University of Iowa men’s track and field team crowned seven champions and posted 24 collegiate bests Saturday at the UNI Invitational in Cedar Falls.
Hawkeye sophomore Dan Rolling won the Group B heptathlon with a collegiate-best point total of 4,634. He won the high jump (6-9 3/4) and the 60 meters (7.25) as part of the heptathlon, and was competing in the pole vault, 1,000 meters and 60-meter hurdles for the first time in his collegiate career. Sophomore Mark Mankivsky won the heptathlon pole vault (14-5 1/4) for Group B, which was a collegiate-best mark. Senior Ryan Niver placed third in the Group A heptathlon with 4,933 points, which was only 51 points shy of the school record of 4,984 he holds in that event.
Juniors John Hickey and Andy Napier, and sophomore Paul Chaney, Jr., also picked up event titles for the Hawkeyes. Hickey won the shot put (58-9 1/4), Napier won the 3,000 meters (8:31.59) and Chaney won the 60 meters with a collegiate-best 6.89.
Iowa’s next competition will be Feb. 8-9 at the co-ed Meyo Invitational in South Bend, IN. All events will be held on the University of Notre Dame campus.
