DENTON, TX – Iowa claimed three event titles and the all-around in a strong win over Texas Woman’s University today, 195.075-193.475. The Hawkeyes had winners on vault, beam and floor. Jenifer Simbhudas was once again Iowa’s top all-around competitor, earning the win with a 38.950.
On vault the Hawkeyes scored a total 48.525 while Jenifer Simbhudas scored 9.825 to take the title. Kara Pinjuv and Amanda Rudolph rounded out the top three vault placings. Pinjuv finished second with a 9.8 and Rudolph finished third scoring 9.725. Brandi Loffer tied for fifth with TWU’s Jennifer Liberato scoring 9.675.
Freshman Rebecca Simbhudas was Iowa’s top bars competitor, tying for second with TWU’s Amanda Walker, scoring 9.8. Houry Gebeshian and Jenifer Simbhudas tied for fourth in the event with a 9.75 while Katie Burke placed sixth, scoring 9.7. Freshman Brittany Logan placed seventh with a 9.675 in her second competition as a Hawkeye.
Posting 49.1 on beam, the Hawkeyes saw their highest team beam score of 2008. Rebecca Simbhudas took the title, scoring 9.875 while Gebeshian placed second with a 9.85. Jenifer Simbhudas tied for third with TWU’s Courtney Arno-Templet scoring 9.825. Recording a 9.8, Pinjuv tied for fifth with TWU’s Kristie Costa, while Loffer finished seventh with a 9.75.
The Hawkeyes claimed the top three spots on floor against TWU. Gebeshian and Burke tied for first posting a 9.825 while Pinjuv tied for third with Mollie Blessing of TWU, scoring 9.8. Loffer tied for sixth with TWU’s Amy Hulbert posting a 9.725.
Burke placed second behind Jenifer Simbhudas in the all-around with a 38.675 while Loffer finished third, scoring 38.125.
Iowa will host its final home meet of 2008 Friday, March 7th at 7 p.m. The Hawkeyes will face Iowa State in the “Pink Meet,” honoring Breast Cancer Awareness. Competition will take place at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
