Iowa Honors 2008 Seniors

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa’s women’s gymnastics team will honor seniors Katie Burke, Amanda Rudolph and Ally Zipse Friday in its final home meet of 2008.

Burke has had a successful campaign as a Hawkeye highlighted by an individual 2007 NCAA Championships appearance. Burke earned career-best scores on vault (9.85), bars (9.875), beam (9.825) and floor (9.9) in 2007. She also scored a career-high 39.25 in the all-around in 2007.

Burke has had a strong senior campaign placing first on bars against Michigan State and Illinois with a season-best 9.85. She earned academic all-Big Ten honors in 2006 and 2007 and will graduate in May with a degree in speech pathology.

Rudolph has seen consistent scoring throughout her four years as a Hawkeye including career-highs of 9.725 on vault, 9.775 on bars, 9.6 on beam and 9.8 on floor. Rudolph had a high all-around score of 38.65 which she earned at Auburn in 2005.

In her senior season Rudolph tied for fourth on vault at Southeast Missouri State with a 9.75 and placed third the event at Texas Woman’s University with a 9.725. She will graduate at the end of 2008 with an environmental science degree.

Zipse has competed on bars seven times as a senior earning a season-high 9.75 at Central Michigan to tie for third. She earned career-highs on vault (9.725) and in the all-around (37.775) in 2005 and on beam (9.8) in 2006. Zipse has also seen career-best scores of 9.8 on bars and 9.825 on floor, both of which were earned in 2007.

Zipse earned academic all-Big Ten honors in 2006 and 2007 and will graduate in May with an integrative physiology major. She will then continue on to graduate school for physical therapy.

Tonight’s “Pink Meet” against Iowa State is designed to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and will take place at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 7 p.m. Iowa is ranked 19th-nationally and third in the Big Ten with an 8-4-1 record. The Hawkeyes will wrap-up regular season competition at Southern Utah, March 14.
