Hawkeyes To Compete At Gainesville Shootout

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to Gainesville, FL, this week for the Gainesville Shootout, hosted by the University of Florida. The 54-hole competition will take place Thursday-Sunday.

THE COMPETITION Iowa will join 16 other teams in Gainesville, including McNeese State, Nevada, Texas State, Albany, Appalachian State, Illinois, Illinois State, Texas Pan-Am, Southern Mississippi, West Florida, Michigan, Mercer, Troy State, Louisiana-Monroe, Wofford and Florida (competing as individuals).

The Shootout will be held at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, with a par of 70 and total yardage of 5,907.

LINEUP
The lineup for the Gainesville Shootout includes seniors Melanie Boyles and Jill Marcum, juniors Tyrette Metzendorf and Becky Quinby, and freshman Lauren Forbes. Fellow freshman Brianna Coopman will be competing as an individual.

LAST COMPETITION On February 11-12, the Hawkeyes took top honors in the Baja Invitational at Baja, Mexico, defeating the rest of the nine-team field to win their first tournament of the season. Iowa finished six strokes ahead of second-place Kennesaw State.

Metzendorf claimed the individual championship at the Invitational, with a final score of 224. The Winter Haven, FL, native was also named Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week for her efforts.

QUOTING HEAD COACH Kelly Crawford “We’re looking to continue our momentum from the last tournament and build some consistency as our season continues. I feel we are in a good position to win each of the next two tournaments and I think we have as good of a chance as any team.”
