April 16, 2008

IOWA CITY, IA – The Iowa Women’s Tennis team has claimed one singles spot in the latest FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, released this morning. Senior Mili Veselinovic is currently ranked 82nd in the nation. Veselinovic has an 18-1, 7-1 Big Ten record this spring and a 24-5 overall record for the season.

Veselinovic has had a stand out season in her senior year at Iowa; she opened the season with a 13 match winning streak, and has won every singles match but one. Playing at the number two singles position for the Hawkeyes, Veselinovic broke the Iowa school record for career singles wins and currently has 111 singles wins in her career at Iowa. With three school records to her name, Veselinovic is just three wins away from claiming her fourth, the record for most singles wins as a senior.

Veselinovic has recently highlighted her final season as a Hawkeye by claiming victories against top opponents. Veselinovic claimed one of the biggest victories of her career when she defeated top-ranked Northwestern’s Georgia Rose, the fifth-ranked player in the country, last weekend. Another notable victory for Veselinovic was her victory over Notre Dame’s Brook Buck, who is one half of the top double’s pair in the country.

The Hawkeyes finish regular season play this weekend as they travel to Purdue Saturday and conclude with a match at Illinois Sunday.
