Hawkeyes Ranked Fifth In Preseason Poll

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa field hockey team is ranked fifth in the STX/NFHCA preseason poll released today. The Hawkeyes were one of four teams to receive a first place vote, receiving one. Defending unbeaten national champion North Carolina is ranked first, followed by Maryland, Wake Forest and Connecticut.

The Hawkeyes began last season ranked 10th in the country and ended the season ranked fifth after finishing 17-4 overall.

During the 2008 season, Iowa will face 10 of the top 20 teams ranked in the preseason poll. This weekend, the Black and Gold will face No. 3 Wake Forest and No. 1 North Carolina in the seventh annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Iowa faces Wake Forest Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT) and then North Carolina Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT). Both matches will take place at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC.
